The former Scuderia Ferrari boss claims the Italian team made a mistake in signing Lewis Hamilton. However, in his opinion, Hamilton made a great deal!
Binotto returned to Formula 1 this year as Audi CEO, but he will always be a Ferrari fan in some way. He believes Fred Vasseur made a mistake in signing Hamilton, as he should have focused much more on Charles Leclerc's talent:
"Hamilton did very well to move to Ferrari, I agree with his decision. If I had to decide on this matter, I would not invite him to the team because I think we should focus on younger drivers. There is a talented Leclerc, I think we should achieve big goals with him.
I have been a Ferrari fan since childhood and our shared past cannot be erased. I still keep a lot of photos and objects from that time in my apartment. But professional decisions are not always balanced with emotions, you have to be able to separate them. Even so, today I still rejoice when Ferrari wins, I have a lot of nice friends there, and in such moments I feel that I have contributed to their success,” said Binotto.
