Unusual news - thank God, this time in a positive context - has hit the news at the world-famous Belgian racetrack.
King Philippe of Belgium has announced that this year the Kingdom of Belgium will put into circulation a coin that pays tribute to one of the most famous, if not the most famous, circuit in the world.
It is common practice in countries using the euro to issue two new 2-euro coins with a new design each year, the obverse of which honours the issuing country or a significant, important theme within Europe.
King Philippe's statement also states that the reverse of the "Spa-Francorchamps euro" will feature a silhouette of the track, with two numbers on the left: 7004 and 1921. The first number probably symbolizes the current length of the track, while the second is the year it was opened, as the first races were held there in that year. The official design of the coin has not yet been released, but you should definitely keep an eye out: you could get a beautiful Formula 1 souvenir, and it's free!
