South Africa is campaigning very strongly for the country to return to the Formula 1 circuit, and not just in the news. The country's sports minister has set up a committee to select a promoter with whom the country can apply in the coming months.
Kyalami, a venue not entirely unknown to F1, is said to be the winner. Gayton McKenzie, the minister responsible for sport, is already preparing for 2027, as he believes that the conditions for hosting should realistically be in place by then:
“The committee we have now set up will determine the conditions for the application. By the end of February, they must submit to the government a proposal for a venue that will definitely not bring shame to the country and will organize the race as best as possible. Which venue it will be is not yet known, but I would like to add that Kyalami has its history and also the infrastructure. Look at the climate, look at the roads, the possibility of organizing a city race is easily drawn. There are investors who are willing to contribute to this, so I think everything is ready…” - said the most prominent participant in this matter.
