There was some dispute between the older and younger Carlos Sainz over which option would be best for Carlos Sainz JR. In the end, the younger Sainz decided to listen to himself and, according to him, he has no regrets.
Even Alpine offered him the opportunity, but he apparently chose the weakest option:
"My dream was to move to Red Bull or maybe Mercedes, which I didn't manage to do. Then I had to choose between Audi, Alpine and Williams. When I visited the teams, the factories, I talked to everyone, something immediately told me: go to Williams, they want to achieve a better future. When not only my head but also my heart said it, I knew that they would be my path. I know that my father felt very good at the Dakar Rally with Audi, he has a good relationship with them, he wanted me to move to them, but I hope that he will forgive me for not choosing them. I would also like to prove to him that I made the right decision! When I first got into their car last year, I immediately felt that they were full of enthusiasm, motivation and wanted to get back to the top. In addition, the car also worked well, our testing this year went great, the improvements are working. I don't know what all this will be enough for, how far we will be from the top, but I hope that as a team we will constantly improve and eventually the time will come when we will become competitive." - Carlos Sainz said with optimism.
