In recent weeks, Aston Martin's alleged billion-dollar bid to lure Max Verstappen has attracted serious attention. Günther Steiner believes the move will be successful because it is an incomprehensible sum...
While there is no guarantee that Aston Martin will become world champion, there are signs that it could be possible. Steiner says Verstappen will accept the offer even if the Greens are not competitive:
"One billion is a huge number. Even if Max was the last one, he would still do it immediately for one billion. Not many teams can afford it, but Aston can definitely afford it, they can put a billion salary on the table. That's a high bar, an absolute record in the history of F1, probably no one will ever beat it. I mean, if it's true and it's not just speculation... I don't think it's. The reason I don't think it would work is the current driver pairing. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have a contract until 2026, I don't think Fernando would leave, and I also don't believe Lawrence Stroll would sacrifice his own son on the altar of business. But from 2027 it will be a completely different situation..." - Steiner left the possibility open.
