The important thing is, and this is the most important thing, if Max Verstappen wins his next grand prix, then there is no doubt that he is the world champion. If he fails, he could still be crowned champion in Las Vegas, or Lando Norris could avoid him…
We will show you how to:
If Verstappen is second, Norris must surely win to maintain his mathematical chance.
If Verstappen is third, Norris must finish at least second. However, if the Red Bull pilot had even set the fastest lap, it would still have meant the championship for him.
If Verstappen is fourth, Norris needs at least third to keep his hopes alive. If the Dutchman finishes fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth or ninth, Norris must overtake him by at least two positions. If Norris sets the fastest lap of the race, all he has to do is finish one place ahead of him and still (theoretically) stay in the game. If Verstappen is tenth, Norris must be in the top eight. And finally, if Verstappen doesn't score any points, Norris should finish at least ninth, of course with the fastest lap to add.
Did we mention we hate math?
