The Las Vegas Grand Prix qualifying is coming up soon, and one of the favorites could be Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes.
This means that we in the editorial office consider him one of the candidates, but his former teammate and world champion sees it completely differently. Jenson Button claims that Hamilton is simply too old and slow to qualify! That is a harsh statement, but not without reason. So far, only one person has managed to beat him in the qualifying total, and that was only once, and that was Nico Rosberg. In 2014, the total was 12-7 in Rosberg's favor, but this season Hamilton is receiving a much harsher defeat from George Russell, as he will be driving for Ferrari next year:
"Lewis is almost forty, which is perhaps why his qualifying performances have deteriorated. Whatever high-level performances he performs, whatever good reflexes he has, he can no longer compete with the younger racers. He is too old for that, he cannot keep up with them on one lap, and it is probably very difficult for him to accept that his rivals are not only faster and fresher, but also more consistent," commented his former rival Button with brutal honesty.
Has he aged? We'll see soon...
