It is very rare for someone to lead the drivers' championship in F1 (massively so) who is only in third place in the constructors' championship.
McLaren's revival and Scuderia Ferrari's strong performance make the end of the 2024 season still exciting. Max Verstappen's world title is not yet in danger, but another victory for Lando Norris and a possible zero points for Red Bull Racing could bring the two sides close enough to be described as an open contest.
Until then, however, the Dutchman is aiming for another success that could be exceptional not only because it would be another title defense. His team is modestly in third place in the constructors' championship, and if Verstappen still wins the world championship, he could revive the 41-year-old record, namely Nelson Piquet, who became world champion in 1983 while sitting in a car for a team that finished third in the constructors' championship. After the dominance of recent seasons, it is very interesting to write about it, but that is exactly the situation now.
