You may all remember Lewis Hamilton's unfortunate qualifying on Saturday. The seven-time world champion crashed out in Q1, but came back from the back of the field to finish fourth in the race.
Although the team's simulations suggested that a maximum of sixth place would be achievable, Hamilton thoroughly refuted this and, according to his (former) boss, had he not encountered such unfortunate circumstances during qualifying, he could have won:
“I always try to look at events impartially, with the eyes of an analyst, and in my opinion, if that buoy had not appeared unluckily in his path and he had closed qualifying earlier, Lewis would have fought for victory. However, this leaves no trace in me, because we have achieved so many victories and successes together that what has happened or not happened now no longer affects our relationship in any way.
But I have to give him his due: As a world champion, he raced in Abu Dhabi. He started from 16th place and patiently, tactically worked his way up to fourth place, and he finished ahead of Red Bull. For me, that's a world champion's performance, no question!" - praised his racer one last time as team boss Toto Wolff.
